Mary Ruth Hughes has extensive experience as a corporate transactional attorney for clients large and small.  After practicing in the Corporate Department of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Los Angeles from 2002 through 2010, Mary Ruth began her own practice and later co-founded Shenkman & Hughes.  She has successfully consummated a wide variety of corporate transactions, including complex public company mergers, private equity acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures, capital market transactions, and financings.  Mary Ruth is also accomplished in a broad range of other legal matters, such as SEC reporting, general corporate advice, contract negotiation and dispute resolution.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Mary Ruth received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from California State University Northridge in 1998 and worked as an accountant from 1997 through 1999.  She attended the University of Southern California Law School and received her Juris Doctor in 2002, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif.

Mary Ruth is also a licensed real estate broker.  Her experience in real estate and accounting gives her a better understanding of her clients’ businesses and allows her to offer practical solutions and real-world advice.
